APM Salary and Market Trends Survey 2016

The Association for Project Managers (APM) is the professional certification body and project management association in the UK; providing membership, qualifications, events and publications for those working in project management. In 2016, Research by Design supported the APM with their second Salary and Market Trends Survey. The survey was designed to help create vital career development research that will provide project professionals and employers with an overview of the project management profession in terms of salaries, packages and market trends.

The APM has now released this survey which features insights from almost 5,000 professionals and Research by Design is proud to have supported this project.

Some of the key findings from the survey:

Project managers are content in their roles

-   The majority (82%) of all respondents said they were either very satisfied or fairly satisfied with their current employment – with 10% more respondents being very satisfied (compared to last year’s survey).

Salaries are increasing

-   Since 2015, the average salary of project professionals, across all industries and skills, has risen from £44,000 to £50,000 – an increase of over 10%.

APM membership linked to higher salaries

-   On average, full members of APM earn £14,000 more than non-members in the profession.

Work-life balance key for contractors

-   35% of the contractors surveyed cited work-life balance as their primary reason for choosing a contractor role.
